ANZ Hot Shots - Junior Group Coaching

ANZhot shots

The team at Bayside Tennis Coaching make tennis fun and enjoyable for all, with classes catering for students from the age of 3 and up utilising the Tennis Australia ANZ Hot Shots Program. This program is a great way for kids to learn how to play tennis in a fun, interactive environment. Smaller courts, nets, racquets and low-compression balls make learning easy and allow younger players the chance to serve, rally and score right from the first time they play.

Children progress through five development stages (Tiny Tennis, Red Ball, Orange Ball, Green Ball and finally Yellow Ball). Ball compression and court size increase in line with players’ development. This gradual progression improves players’ skills and prepares them to play on a full-size court with a standard yellow tennis ball.

It is recommended that your child wears comfortable sports clothes, sport shoes, a hat, and brings a bottle of water with them.  If you don't have a tennis racquet, then we are able to provide your child with a loan racquet for their lesson at no extra charge.

Tiny Tennis (ages 3–5)

Tiny Tennis introduces children who are not yet at school to tennis through games and fun activities. Children learn the basics of tennis including how to rally. There are a number of program options at this stage.

Time: 30 minute session

Number of students: maximum 4

Red Ball (ages 5–8)

The Red Ball stage is for beginners. The red ball used is larger than a normal yellow tennis ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit it comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller and easier for kids to move around.

Time: 1 hour session

Number of students: maximum 8

Orange Ball (ages 8–10)

After mastering the Red Ball stage, children move on to the Orange Ball stage where the ball bounces a little higher (50 percent compression).  The court is slightly larger than the Red stage.

Time: 1 hour session

Number of students: maximum 8

Green Ball (ages 9+)

The ball used in the Green Ball stage has a higher compression (75 percent of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court.

Time: 1 hour session

Number of students: maximum 8

Yellow Ball (ages 11+)

The Yellow Ball level utilises a standard tennis ball and juniors play on a full-size court just like the professionals. This stage is aimed at teenagers looking to start  and have some fun, or advanced juniors looking to improve their game.

Time: 1 hour session

Number of students: maximum 8
